Have as many different kinds as possible, that way you’ll find what people like. You can always weed out the kinds of yoga people aren’t into, once you get to know the population’s taste there.

I’d rent studio space instead of opening up my own studio first. This will help build clients and would be less on the rent. I live in LA. The rent for studio space is $20/hr (which is reasonable). Each student gives me about $10-$15/hr. So, if I were to operate at a loss, it wouldn’t be substantial and if I could get enough students, the profit would be quite nice.
If you want to start out and you haven’t gained a good understanding of the area yet, I would suggest getting your feet wet with studio rentals. Put ads in Whole Foods and Cafes and craigslist – places where aspiring yogis and yoginis would go. Use your cellphone number for contact information. Keep the initial costs down while you’re learning.
